Shoe Envy

Can you be jealous of your own awesome new shoes? I feel like it might be a little weird, but seriously…these shoes are obviously incredible:

Saucony calls these Hattoris, so clearly they turn people into badass running ninjas.

I got these bad boys last week, but I didn’t want to take them out before racing on Saturday and risk the plethora of ailments new running shoes can sometimes bring. (I also don’t normally like change, so even though I was/am obsessed with how sexy these are and how little they weigh, I was a little nervous about abandoning my Merrell Bare Access Arcs.)

It's been real, guys. But it's been almost a year and I really probably should have stopped running in you at least six months ago.

Post-race, I did a lot of not-running. We got a ton of late-season snow, so I spent a couple of days snowboarding.  Before Nicole and Andrew went back to Florida, we also made sure to squeeze in some climbing time. By yesterday, I needed yoga in the worst way, which was convenient because Wednesday is yoga day at work. Today, it was finally time to run again, and time to break in these sweet shoes!

I can tell you're super jealous.
I can tell you’re super jealous.

I know one run isn’t enough to tell for sure how I feel about them, but…

  •  After five miles, I had no blisters or hot spots
  • My feet were a little uncomfortable during the run, but I was wearing pretty thick socks due to the fact that these shoes aren’t exactly winter-friendly; I’m sure with a normal sock (like my beloved Swiftwicks), they’ll feel better
  • I accidentally ran through a few slushy puddles, but by the time I got back to the office I could barely tell because they were almost already completely dry

So my first impressions are pretty positive and I’m really, really excited to log lots of miles with them.

Please play along and act like my level of excitement is totally normal. Better yet, tell me what silly little things get you guys excited about running (or anything else) so I don’t have to feel awkward by myself!

  1. What?? A year!? Those old shoes were WALKING DEAD!!! I’m curious…if you run in shoes that long do they become more like pets than gear???

BTW all your running friends are excited that you finally got rid of those mangy looking “pets”.
